Ottawa County is holding K9 search and rescue drills on Grand Valley’s Allendale Campus on May 4. The drill runs from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.
Ottawa County Search and Rescue is working in conjunction with Michigan Search and Rescue as well as the Allendale Fire Department.
“Having the ability to practice with our first responder partners, before the need arises, builds confidence in working together as a team to answer the call when the real one comes,” said Sgt. William O’Donnell of the Grand Valley Police Department “More importantly, gaining proficiency in our skills and equipment makes us better prepared.”
The event is closed to the public. O’Donnell said that hikers and visitors to campus that day will see an increased presence of law enforcement members with several K9 teams. Public safety asks anyone in the area during the event to not approach the K9 units as they work.
Anyone who sees something unusual that may not be part of the drill can report it to the Department of Public Safety at 616-331-3255.
