Play written by professor explores moment that shaped President Ford's views on social justice

A new play written by a Grand Valley theater faculty member dramatizes a moment from President Gerald R. Ford's time playing football at University of Michigan that shaped his views on social justice. "Victors of Character: A Story of Loyalty, Integrity, and the Courage to Make a Difference" will be performed March 1. The 45-minute play, written by Allison Metz, associate professor of theater, is based on the 2016 documentary "Black and Blue" by Brian Kruger and Buddy Moorehouse.

Alumna awarded fellowship to research history of people of color in youth theater programs

Shavonne Coleman, '07, has been named a 2018 Theatre for Young Audience Emerging Leader Fellow. In the spring, she will travel to Arizona State University to research the history of people of color involved in youth theater programs. Coleman is currently serving as a visiting professor of theater.

Radio Hall of Fame broadcaster receives surprise diploma during special presentation

John Records Landecker can look back on a storied career as a radio broadcaster, entertaining millions of listeners around the U.S. and Canada for more than 50 years. In honor of his career, Landecker was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2017, but that wasn't the only "class" he joined last year - he also became a member of the Laker Class of 2017.
