Alumnus leads grassroots effort to help W. Mich. nonprofits, small businesses
As government mandates to "stay home, stay safe" change the lives of millions of Americans, those choices of staying home instead of patronizing local businesses or volunteering are having a devastating impact on local economies. One Grand Valley alumnus, Nate Gillespie, '18, is working to lead a growing group of West Michiganders to help support local businesses and nonprofits in their most trying times.

Terrance Weinzierl, '08, entered Grand Valley knowing he wanted to study graphic design, a natural fit given his interest in computers and the influence from his mother, an industrial designer and calligrapher who encouraged Weinzierl to study a creative field.

Muskegon Lake recovery highlighted in documentary by alumnus
For years, Muskegon Lake in Muskegon County was severely polluted by the various factories and industrial plants that lined its shores. While the lake is still considered an Area of Concern by the Environmental Protection Agency, conditions have improved greatly thanks to efforts of community organizations and funding from a wide variety of sources. That recovery is highlighted by a short film produced and directed by Grand Valley alumnus David Ruck that was shown at a community event at the Frauenthal Theater in Muskeg
