WGVU to address racial disparities through community engagement

WGVU Public Media will launch "Shaping Narratives," a project aimed at increasing West Michigan's capacity to influence public narratives affecting children and families of color. The project is funded by a $538,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Michigan.

Blue announces retirement from Grand Valley after 50 years

When Lynn "Chick" McNamara Blue was hired at Grand Valley State University as a clerk typist in 1968, she was put on a six-month probation. Her performance must have been acceptable because she is now a vice president and will break the record for the longest-serving employee when she passes the 50-year mark in September. While she noted she is definitely a Laker for a Lifetime, Blue announced she will stop showing up at the office each day at the end of this year.

Longtime head of Facilities Planning to retire

James Moyer, associate vice president for Facilities Planning and member of the President's Cabinet, will retire March 31. During Moyer's 22-year career at Grand Valley, he managed the development of more than 4 million square feet of expansion at the university, including major building projects at the Allendale and Grand Rapids campuses and centers in Muskegon.

Grand Valley's President Haas announces retirement in 2019

Grand Valley State University President Thomas J. Haas announced he will retire, effective June 30, 2019. He became the university's fourth president in 2006 and has led Grand Valley through a steady period of managed growth and success. He has consistently credited his wife, Marcia, for her support of him and the university, and he has always led with the idea that students come first.
