Future Presidents of America
About the Camp
The Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies is proud to offer the Future Presidents of America youth leadership camp, a weeklong leadership and civics program for students ages 13-16. The camp builds confidence, civic knowledge, and character by exploring what makes ethical, effective presidents and leaders.
Using the Gerald R. Ford presidency as a lens, students engage in:
- Interactive history and leadership sessions
- Hands-on experiences with historic artifacts
- Discussions on citizenship, leadership, and public service
- Opportunities to meet and learn from business and community leaders
Students participate in thoughtful conversations about the challenges presidents face— past, present, and future— while developing their own leadership voice.
To ensure the Hauenstein Center can provide a high-quality, personalized experience, and gather meaningful feedback during this inaugural year of Future Presidents of America, eligibility to apply is currently open to only students enrolled at a group of partner schools: Byron Center Schools, East Grand Rapids Schools, Grand Rapids Public Schools, East Kentwood Schools, and Black River Public School. The inaugural cohort will accommodate 20 students, 4 from each school district. We look forward to expanding the opportunity in future years as the program grows.
Each day's programming and field trips focus on a set of themes that explore rich history through compelling and insightful stories of success in the face of challenge and adversity:
Monday: Communitas & Civitas
Tuesday: Confidence & Qualifications
Wednesday: Duty, Honor & Sacrifice
Thursday: Poise and Policy
Friday: E Pluribus Unum
