What is Easter?
- Easter is a predominant Christian holiday which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Easter is preceded by Lent, which is a 40-day period during which many Christians fast.
- The week immediately before Easter Sunday is called “Holy Week,” which commemorates events in the story of Jesus’ crucifixion, death, and resurrection.
- Popular holiday symbols include Easter eggs and chicks which are often said to represent new life.

- Because they use a different calendar, Eastern Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter on a different date.
