What is Easter?

  • Easter is preceded by Lent, which is a 40-day period during which many Christians fast.
  • The week immediately before Easter Sunday is called “Holy Week,” which commemorates events in the story of Jesus’ crucifixion, death, and resurrection.
  • Popular holiday symbols include Easter eggs and chicks which are often said to represent new life.
