Epiphany / Día De Los Tres Reyes (Christianity)

Date and Time

Wednesday, January 6, 2027

Description

What is Epiphany?

  • Epiphany is observed every January 6th, 12 days after Christmas Day in many Western Christian traditions.
  • This holiday is when Christians take the time to remember the Wise Men, who are also referred to as the Three Kings who visited Jesus on the night he was born.
  • It is also known as el Día De Los Tres Reyes, the "Day of the Three Kings" in Mexico and other Hispanic communities.
    • During Día de Los Reyes, many practitioners serve Rosca de Reyes, or King’s Cake. “Rosca” means wreath and “reyes” means kings. The Rosca de Reyes has an oval shape to symbolize a crown and has a small doll inside, which represents baby Jesus.
  • The day is often celebrated with gift-giving, feasting, and occasionally water ceremonies as a reflection of Jesus' baptism.
  • Many Eastern Christian churches celebrate Epiphany on January 19, since their Christmas falls on January 7th.
