Description
What is Easter?
- Easter is a main Christian holiday which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Because they use a different calendar than Western Christians (who celebrated Easter in March), Eastern Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter between April 4 and May 8, following the first full moon after the Jewish celebration of Passover.
- Eggs are a popular symbol for the holiday which are said to represent new life. These are decorated in a variety of different ways, including dying them red or using intricate designs.
- Orthodox Christians will often celebrate the day by attending celebratory services at church, feasting (often including lamb), playing games, and gathering with loved ones.
