Description

What is Passover?

  • Passover (or Pesach in Hebrew) is a major Jewish holiday commemorating the liberation of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt.
  • Passover takes place over 8 days.
  • To commemorate the unleavened bread that the Hebrews ate when they left Egypt, many Jews refrain from eating leavened foods, and sometimes other foods, for the duration of the week.
  • Traditional rituals include the retelling of the Exodus story and the hosting of seders, a ritual meal that consists of a number of symbolic foods.
