Description
Fall is in the air - temperatures are moderating, vacations are ending, new television schedules are being advertised, and students are preparing to return to school. Kaufman Interfaith Institute is pleased to announce its fall book study. In this divisive election year, it is important for us to build a community where we can discuss current issues and solutions for our future as a country. This book study, like other affinity groups offered by the Kaufman Institute, is designed to build relationships that span our differences and develop understanding.
For this facilitated book study, we will be reading The False White Gospel: Rejecting Christian Nationalism, Reclaiming True Faith, and Refounding Democracy by Jim Wallis. It is time, says Jim Wallis, to call out genuine faith inviting all who can be persuaded to reject and help dismantle a false gospel that propagates white supremacy and autocracy.
This book and this group are not only relevant for Christians but
provide valuables insights for people of all religious, secular, and
spiritual identities. When we see a civic promotion of fear, hate, and
violence for the trajectory of our politics, we need a civic faith of
love, healing, and hope to defeat it. And that must involve all of
us–religious or not. Learning to practice a politics of neighborly
love will be central to the future of democracy in America. More than
ever, the words of Jesus ring, “You will know the truth, and the truth
will set you free.”
This group will meet every other Wednesday afternoon this fall
from 2:00 - 3:30 pm starting on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
We will be meeting by Zoom - the link will be sent out closer to
the first date. Later in the fall, we may include an “in person” session.
