Change of Status

If you are switching from another visa type into F-1, this needs to be processed in SEVIS as a Change of Status I-20 and an additional application must be submitted to USCIS.

Please note that you must be admitted to the new program/major, have provided adequate proof of finances to your Laker Portal, and your program/major must be reflected in Banner as well. If you are changing status during a degree, you will be asked to provide the proof of finances with this form. Estimated total costs needed for proof of funding are available on the admissions website.

Processing Time: Change of Status requests are processed based on when all the requirements are met. This means the processing time varies and we cannot guarantee a turn-around time for this type of request.

Proof of Funding

If you are a new student to GVSU, you will provide your Proof of Funding in your Laker Portal account. If you are already enrolled in a major/program and have already begun taking classes, you will submit your proof of funding here.
