Zoom Updates March 2023
Updates to the Zoom Client
General Features
- Out of office status for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS – Users can set their status to Out of Office, better indicating the user is away for an extended period of time and will not likely respond to messages and meeting invitations.
Meeting Features
- Retain chat messages from breakout rooms for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS – When using the new meeting chat experience, users will be able to view the main meeting chat message history when they join a breakout room and also view breakout room chat history when they return to the main meeting. Previously, the new meeting chat experience did not support messages following in and out of breakout rooms.
- Continuous meeting chat for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS – Meeting hosts can schedule a meeting and invite contacts, who are added to both the calendar event for the meeting and the dedicated Team Chat group chat. This group chat and its messages are accessible by members before, during, and after the scheduled meeting.
Whiteboard Features
- Zoom Whiteboard data encryption for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS – Zoom has extended support for Zoom Customer Managed Key (CMK) to include whiteboard data on canvas and comments. Since encryption happens for whiteboards, admins have granular control over individual whiteboards.
Team Chat Features
- Restrict or disable @all mentions in a channel for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS – If allowed by admins, Team Chat channel owners can disable or restrict use of the @all mention within that channel.
- Support for Team Chat message encryption with Customer Managed Key (CMK) for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS – Customer Managed Key (CMK) encryption can be extended to include encryption of Team Chat messages. Team Chat messages join other items already covered by CMK encryption, including Zoom Phone voicemails and recordings, Meeting and Webinar recordings, compliance archiving, and certain tokens.
Updates to Zoom Phone
- Zoom Assistant – To enable the Zoom Assistant feature, account owners and admins can enable it at the account or user level. Once enabled, users have the ability to enable/disable the feature from their own settings in the web portal and control its functionality from their client. Accounts that previously had users with Power Pack desktop experience turned ON will have Zoom Assistant turned ON for those same users, to ensure continuity. This feature is also available for the Windows and macOS desktop clients. Zoom Assistant allows the following:
- With a Zoom Phone Pro license, users have access to a desktop panel interface that provides search, speed dial, ability to call and transfer calls.
- With a Power Pack license and Zoom Phone Pro, Zoom Assistant functionality expands to include Power Pack functions like answering calls for call queues and shared lines groups
- Chat channels for call queues – Account owners and admins can enable this feature at the account level to allow their call queues admins to create a chat channel for their groups. Once enabled the admins can then create a chat channel for that group to allow members to communicate with each other via chat.
Updates to Zoom Events
Host Features
- Add custom event capacity messaging for attendees – Hosts can add custom messaging for their attendees when their event reaches maximum capacity. This will be an optional feature that is available if the host oversells an event. This feature is not needed for paid events or for events where the host does not oversell capacity.
Event Setup Features
- Support for sign language interpreters – Hosts can assign a host-provided sign language interpreter in the Sessions tab in the event creation flow. Hosts can select the language that the sign language interpreter will sign. Sign language interpretation information has been added to Zoom Events emails, event details page, and event lobby. This feature enhances the accessibility of Zoom Events.
Meeting/Webinar Features
- Change webinars to meetings in Zoom Events – Hosts can change the session type from Webinar to Meeting after they publish their event. Previously, Zoom Events only supported changing the session type from Meeting to Webinar when an event was published.
