Steelcase Library Change

Steelcase Library will be changing its service offerings in Fall 2025. These changes will require the temporary closure of the Steelcase Library and Curriculum Materials Library space from April 25 until August, 2025.

Starting in Fall 2025 the Steelcase Library Space will include:

  • A Universal Testing Center
  • A Psychology laboratory in DEV 127A
  • Expanded partnership and presence of the Knowledge Market and Tutoring Services
  • Individual study booths

The University Libraries will continue to offer these services in Fall 2025:

Steelcase Library Closure for Summer 2025

Why is Steelcase closing for the summer?

The University is moving several academic support services into the Steelcase Library space beginning in Fall 2025. In order to accommodate these changes, the library space will need to be closed so construction projects can be completed. The construction will:

  • Create a Universal Testing Center in the current Steelcase Library Staff space
  • Convert the Library Computer Lab at DEV 127A into a Psychology Laboratory
  • Expand the Collaboration Zone to include more services from the Knowledge Market and the Tutoring Center

These changes also support the University's project to transform the Eberhard Center to the Blue Dot Lab

No, the CML will be closed April 25th through the Spring and Summer semesters. The closure was approved by the Provost and requested by Facilities due to the scope of construction.

There will be no access for library users to the collections at Steelcase or the Curriculum Materials Library beginning April 25. We are still working with Facilities on summer access to Steelcase collections and providing a DeVos pickup location for library requests. Due to construction, turn around times will be slower.

We are not sure. Pickups can be done at Frey Foundation Learning Commons on the Health Campus, or at the Mary Idema Pew Library in Allendale.

When requesting a book that GVSU owns or MeLCat requests, you can select another pickup location when requesting items. For Document Delivery requests, you can update your account to select another pickup location.

Steelcase Library computers will be unavailable beginning April 25, 2025 due to the library closure for construction.

Laptops

Laptop checkouts will not be available on the DeVos campus. Laptops will continue to be available at Frey Foundation Learning Commons and the Mary Idema Pew Library for 4-hour loans. We plan to resume laptop checkouts at Steelcase in Fall 2025 after construction is completed.

Computer Labs

The computer lab at DEV 127A will be closed beginning April 15th for construction as it is converted to a new psychology lab.

There are other computer labs throughout DeVos that can be used by GVSU students, faculty, and staff. Computer labs are not accessible to community and public users. We are working with campus partners to find a solution for public computers once the space reopens in Fall 2025.

No. Course Reserves support at Steelcase will resume in Fall 2025.

Liaison librarians will continue to be available for online contact and campus meetings.

Yes! The Book Drop will remain in the DeVos lot during the summer closure and beyond.

Replenish is working with other campus partners to find a new home on the downtown campus. When we know more, we will update this page.

Service Changes for Fall 2025

We are working with University Leadership and campus partners to determine hours for Steelcase Library. Updates can be found at the Library Hours page.

Yes, the Curriculum Materials Library will reopen in Fall 2025 with the same hours as the Steelcase Library.

We’re excited to provide several additional Academic Support Services within the Steelcase Library space:

  • A new Universal Testing Center will support students at all campuses.
  • The Collaboration Zone will house additional private study booths and expanded services for the Knowledge Market and the Tutoring Center.
  • The Computer Lab at DEV 127A will be converted into a Psychology Lab.
