Woodwind/Brass Audition Registration (Non-Music Majors)

Incoming (New) Music Majors:
Those auditioning for entrance into the GVSU Music Department as music majors must schedule their audition through the Music Office. More information concerning dates and auditions can be found at www.gvsu.edu/music. Your audition will count as an audition for the Laker Marching Band.

**GVSU provides instruments ONLY for the following: Mellophone, Baritone, and Sousaphone.

Auditions are held in person or by video submission. For in person auditions, once you select an audition date and submit the form, you will be contacted by the Director of Athletic Bands, Dr. John Martin, to set up your exact audition time and receive additional instructions. For video submissions, the video urls must be submitted with this form. The audition dates are as follows:

Allendale Campus Auditions
Room 1211, Haas Center for Performing Arts

  • Friday, March 7
  • Saturday, March 8
  • Sunday, April 6
  • Saturday, May 3
  • Sunday, May 4
  • Saturday, May 17

EAST MICHIGAN AREA Auditions
Location - TDB

  • Saturday, April 5

Video Auditions

  • Due by Saturday, May 17

Audition Process

Woodwind/Brass Audition

Once you select an audition date and submit the form, you will be contacted by the Director of Athletic Bands, Dr. John Martin, to set up your exact audition time and receive additional instructions.

The audition will consist of:

  • Required Woodwind/Brass Audition Music located on the audition information page.
  • Your Bb Concert Scale playing half notes at quarter note = 100. Start on your lowest concert Bb and continue as high as you can play without descending.
