Register for Your Drumline Audition

• Submission of Form Due by Friday, May 16, 2025
• All auditionees must attend BOTH days!
• All accepted members must register for MUS 107 (marching band). This is a one (1) credit class.
• Full-time students at area colleges/universities may audition.
• If any person auditioning for the Laker Marching Band is under the age of 18 on May 17, 2025, they are required to have a parent/guardian with them on campus during the listed audition time (9:00am-4:00pm).
  • Those under the age of 18 who are unable to have a parent/guardian present during the listed audition time of 9:00am – 4:00pm can submit a video. Please email [email protected] for more information about the video audition option.

Audition Process

The GVSU Laker Marching Band Drumline Auditions for prospective members and LMB returners will be conducted in person:

Prospective/New Members Only:

• Complete and Submit your online Drumline Audition Registration Form
  • The online form must be submitted before the Saturday audition date.
• Choose both a primary and secondary drumline instrument audition packet to prepare. Instructions and specific packets are listed below.
• Mastery of technique, understanding of all musical elements and instruction information in the audition packet are keys to a successful audition.
• NOTE - It is highly encouraged that you are proficient on a secondary drumline instrument (snare, tenors, bass, or cymbal). 

*GVSU Band Directors and Drumline Instructional staff reserves the right to ask any accepted member or LMB returner to move to a secondary drumline instrument based on the talent level, availability of instruments, and appropriate instrumentation of the drumline. 
 

Returners Only:

• Complete and Submit your online Drumline Audition Registration Form
  • The online form must be submitted before the Saturday audition date.
• All LMB Drumline returners are required to attend the audition dates. 
• Returners will be assigned to their respective instrument or new instrument.

*GVSU Band Directors and Drumline Instructional staff reserves the right to ask any accepted member or LMB returner to move to a secondary drumline instrument based on the talent level, availability of instruments, and appropriate instrumentation of the drumline.

Additional Information:

Non-GVSU Students Attending Area Colleges/Universities

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY and applies to those who marched in the Laker Marching Band in 2023 and before.

Non-GVSU students who are attending at area colleges/universities full-time:

• Can audition for the Laker Marching Band.
• Upon a successful audition, complete the Guest Application to GVSU, be admitted by GVSU, register for MUS 107, and pay the for the cost of the course.
  • Returning Guest Students of the Laker Marching Band do not have to re-audition, but drumline members must complete the online Drumline Audition registration and attend the Drumline Audition in May for placement.  
  • Returning Guest Students must complete the Guest Application, be admitted by GVSU, register for MUS 107, and pay for the cost of the course.

  • The course number for the GVSU Marching Band is MUS 107 Section 01
  • The cost of 1 credit hour at GVSU for 2023-24 is $614 (2023-24).

A. Everyone (prospective members and returners) must download, review, and prepare the exercises in the 2024 GV Technique Packet.

Mandatory Summer Activities

Mandatory Summer Day Camp

• All members of the Laker Marching Band Drumline MUST attend the Summer Camp on Saturday, July 12, 2025 (9:00am - 6:00pm).

Pregame Music Memorization

• Please refer to the "New Member Summer Information"
• Pregame memorization MUST be completed TBD.
