The most helpful aspects of my undergraduate education in mathematics were: learning Excel, critical thinking, and communication.
The advice I’d offer to current undergraduate students in mathematics: Job shadow as many people as you can find. Don't be afraid to reach out and ask them. The only reason I'm in the position I'm in is because I asked a friend (of a friend) if I could watch what he does for a half day. Four years later I got my masters degree and joined that company.
In a typical day in my work, I: compute and maintain a labor model across all Meijer stores to create fair and accurate budgets.
