Capacity-Building Grants for Faculty Mentors
CLAS Supplementary Start-up Funds: Elizabeth Flandreau
There is a well-known link between exposure to environmental stress and increased risk for developing psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder (MDD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the majority of stress-exposed individuals do not go on to develop these deleterious consequences. The Flandreau lab examines environmental and genetic factors that may predict whether a subject will be sensitive or resilient to stress exposure. Last summer we used a mouse model of social stress and examined behavioral outcomes. This year, we will look at gene-expression in the brains of these mice to see if a specific set of genes are expressed in resilient vs. sensitive subjects.
