John W. August III is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Grand Valley State University. He a Fellow at the American Institute for Philosophical and Cultural Thought and worked as a project manager for the New American Baccalaureate. He earned his PhD in Philosophy at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2018. His dissertation was devoted to exploring philosophical endeavors to grapple with making intensity intelligible by Fechner, Kant, and Bergson and provide a Bergson-inspired language to address the concrete relations of intensity.

His areas of specialty include Process Philosophy (especially Bergson), Boston Personalism, and Philosophy of Science. His areas of competency include Ethics, Ancient Philosophy, and History of Philosophy.

His research centers around temporality and how it informs lived experience as well as uncovering the significant characteristics of experiences of value.
