Teresa Castelão-Lawless earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Science and Technology Studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She also holds an M.A. and a B.A. in Philosophy from the Classic University of Lisbon, Portugal. She is internationally known for her expertise on French epistemologist and philosopher of science Gaston Bachelard.
Her research interests include history, philosophy, and sociology of science and technology, Aristotelianism in medieval Universities, natural history of the 17th century, and the role of the religious Orders in the introduction of Modern Science to Portugal during the 18th century.
In 2005, she received the Grand Valley State University's Outstanding Contribution to a Discipline Award.
