Residential Memory Care Facilities

As dementia progresses, it may be difficult for an individual suffering from memory loss to remain in their own home. Residential memory care facilities are one option to meet these increased care needs. When considering if a residential memory care facility is the right choice, making an appointment to tour is a good first step. Each memory care facility can vary widely in the types of care options provided and the cost associated with care. A specialized memory care facility may also offer unique safety features that other care facilities may not offer.
Many residential memory care facilities offer temporary respite options which allows an individual to live as a resident in the facility for a short period of time. This can be a good way to see if the memory care facility is a good fit for your loved one. There are also many factors to consider when choosing a facility. The Alzheimer's Association provides a checklist of items to review when selecting the best fit for you and your loved one. Some of these items include the ratio of staff to residents, whether the facility has planned activities available at a variety of times, and if the staff at the facility has received specialized training related to dementia.
