Mangala Wins Distinguished Contribution in a Discipline Award

Professor Jack Mangala is this year’s recipient of the GVSU Distinguished Contribution in a Discipline Award. Professor Mangala is jointly appointed in Political Science and in Area and Global Studies, where he is chair of the department.
Professor Mangala was selected based on his impressive and continued record of scholarly achievement. In the past decade, he has edited and published six volumes dealing with key and timely issues in African politics and Africa's international relations. From Africa's standing in the world to new security threats facing the continent, its changing relation with the EU, the growing importance of its global diaspora and most recently the question of presidential term limits and democratic consolidation, these publications have addressed issues that are central to policy and scholarly debates on the continent.
