DEAN ANNOUNCES COMMENCEMENT MARSHALS FOR FALL 2019
November 26, 2019
Dean Fred Antczak is pleased to announce that serving as commencement marshals will be Professor Polly Diven of Political Science and Jeff Kelly Lowenstein of the School of Communication.
In May 2019, eight GVSU students participated in the National Security Seminar organized by The Washington Center in Washington, DC. The national seminar was attended by 85 students from across the U.S., and consisted of lectures, seminars, and daily site visits to national security offices. Led by Professor Diven, participating GV students were: Katelyn Bleau, Hadley Christensen, Emily Eaton, T.J. Freidgen, Robert Heilig, Lauren Moine, Hannah Sage, and Hunter Streling.
Jeff Kelly Lowenstein, assistant professor of multimedia journalism, shared the byline on a USA Today story detailing a reverse mortgage foreclosure crisis that has hit predominantly African-American neighborhoods at a rate that is six times higher than neighborhoods that are primarily white. In addition, three Grand Valley students contributed to the report. The hearing by the U.S. House Financial Services Committee was conducted amid the unveiling of new legislation to protect seniors from foreclosures, according to a Sept. 25 USA Today report by Kelly Lowenstein and investigation co-author Nick Penzenstadler.
CLAS congratulates both on their exemplary work.
