Pullins Wins Outstanding Paper Award

Every year the department holds a competition to choose an outstanding student paper written for a political science course. The Student Awards committee is pleased to announce that this year’s winner is Sarah D. Pullins, who wrote Legitimizing Hate: The Attack on LGBT Rights in Russia for Professor Heather Tafel’s course “Human Rights and Democracy in Russia and the Post Communist World” (PLS 325).

“As a result of legitimizing himself as the protector of traditional values, Putin has launched an attack on LGBT rights as a proxy for the West. This paper concludes with discussion regarding the broad implications of Putin’s attack on LGBT rights”.

We congratulate Sarah on her excellent work.
