Toby Hutchins
Tobias Hutchins graduated from GVSU in 2015 with majors in Political Science and Public & Nonprofit Administration and a minor in Music. While still a student at GVSU, Tobias got his start in local politics, winning election to the Fennville Board of Education when he was only 21 years old. He continues to serve on the Board and is currently its Vice President.
Tobias credited his political science courses with helping to make him a better candidate for the Board of Education. "I think it was the dialogue and discussions that I had in my PLS courses that helped me the most. My public speaking skills grew, especially on key policy issues, and I was able to concretely form my opinions and a basic argument to back them up. This made the platform-making aspect of the campaign easy to create," he stated.
After GVSU Tobias completed a MasterĀ of Higher Education Administration Degree from the University of Michigan and has worked in multiple positions in higher education. In addition to his duties on the School Board, Toby is also a Pre-College Coordinator and Advisor for Lake Michigan College.
