Nerina Cevra '01
Nerina Cevra graduated in 2001 with a major in International Relations. She was recognized by GVSU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) through the 2012 CLAS Distinguished Alumni-in-Residence program.
I am a human rights lawyer who works on advancing international legal and policy articulation of the rights of victims of armed violence. I currently work for the London-based NGO Action on Armed Violence. Action on Armed Violence works locally, nationally, regionally and globally to reduce – and ultimately prevent – armed violence.
After graduating from GVSU, I received a dual JD/MA (International
Affairs) from the American University Washington College of Laws and
the School of International Service. I worked for Landmine Survivors
Network, advocating for rights of landmine survivors and persons with
disabilities within the framework of the Mine Ban Treaty and the new
Disability Rights Convention.
I represented the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the
negotiations from 2005 until the treaty was adopted in December 2006.
As part of my work, I developed and conducted trainings on human
rights advocacy, developed analysis of international and national
legal provisions for protection of disability rights and developed
advocacy manuals to support grassroots advocacy efforts of landmine
survivors and others in mine-affected countries.
