Jacob Johnston
Jacob Johnston, a political science major, joined the Peace Corps after graduating in 2016. He first served as a Community Economic Development Volunteer in Ouagadougou, the Capital of Burkina Faso, for two years. As a CED volunteer, he worked with community and business partners in order to create and strengthen economic and agricultural income based activities, as well as teaching business management skills for retention of growth in the future.
“I'm really thankful for my experience and the opportunities that were offered to me here at Grand Valley, where I was encouraged to take proactive steps in my lessons in academia about the importance of engaging in a global perspective. I'm glad to be taking steps beyond my time as a Laker to live the Laker effect.”
After Burkina Faso, Jacob went to Nepal with the Peace Corps, where he was a Food Security Volunteer from April 2018 to March 2020. He has also worked in grant writing for various nonprofit organizations.
