Landon Hughes

In 2014, Landon Hughes graduated from Grand Valley State University with a double major in political science and sociology. Landon enjoyed taking political theory courses, where he learned how to synthesize and communicate complex ideas. Landon comments that he was “grateful to have outstanding mentors from the Political Science Department faculty.” Landon would meet with Professor Walhof and Professor Miller-Adams often, and he credits them with teaching him how to conduct proper research.

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree, Landon worked at RTI International, where he was responsible for implementing and evaluating Medicare programs born out of the Affordable Care Act. From there, Landon decided to attend graduate school at the University of Michigan. Landon received a PhD in Public Health in 2023.

Today, Landon is a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. Landon also serves as a Yerby Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. In his role at Harvard, Landon works on research pertaining to the health and well-being of LGBTQ populations in the United States, studying how stigma and stress contribute to morbidity and mortality among these populations.
