GVSU Mourns the death of Tom Jackson

Thomas E. Jackson, Ph.D. passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 at his home. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 27 years, Joann L. Jackson and his children, Kimberly D. (Jonathan) Forbes, Sonya E. Jackson-Weeks, and Marcus A. Jackson. Dr. Jackson also had four grandchildren, Krystal R. Jackson, Ashley M. Weeks, Barbara N. Forbes and Jonathan M. Forbes who will greatly miss his presence in their lives. Dr. Jackson will also be missed by his “Upper Peninsula” family, sister-in-law Linda Sibbald, nieces Kelly E. (Anthony) Cain and Christy L. Lounds. His great niece, Abigail Hoffman and great nephew, Noah Lounds will also miss being able to fully know how special their great uncle was. Dr. Jackson was predeceased by a special friend, Mr. Ronald Schott. Dr. Jackson worked as a teacher and principal in the Grand Rapids Public Schools from 1965 to 1977. In 1977, he was hired by Grand Valley State University where he worked until his retirement in 1999. He did not stay retired long as he continued as an adjunct professor part time until he officially retired in 2009. Dr. Jackson also served on the Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education and the Grand Rapids Junior College Board of Trustees from 1986 to 1992. He was the Vice President of both Boards from 1987 to 1988 and the President from 1988 to 1989. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Brown-Hutcherson Ministries, 618 Jefferson Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the services. Rev. Nathaniel Moody officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Faith Hospice or the Humane Society of West Michigan will be appreciated. The family was served by Memorial Alternatives.
