GVSU Annis Water Research Institute Hosts January Seminar
Tracking Lake Changes Across Time: Ancient Lake Bonneville, UT and Modern Ore Lake, MI
Plan to join an AWRI Seminar on January 24, 2025, 2-3 p.m.
The presentation by Dr. Ian Winkelstern of GVSU's Geology department:
"This talk explores the use of stable isotopes to measure hydrologic processes in both ancient and modern lake systems. First, I’ll present stable isotope data from ancient Lake Bonneville (today the Great Salt Lake) and discuss work to quantify its hydrology through comparisons with modern lakes within its catchment. Then, closer to home, I’ll describe an effort to investigate the formation of unusual round carbonates (pisoids) in Ore Lake, Michigan. These studies integrate carbonate and water isotope data to unravel short and long-term changes in lake hydrology."
The event is Free and there will be a brief reception, including refreshments immediately following the seminar.
