Applying for On-Campus Housing

Why Live On Campus?

Grand Valley State University is more than just a place to learn. It’s a place to find connections, opportunities, experience, and yourself. There’s no better way to do it all than by living on campus.

If you've lived on campus before, you understand that there is no better way to experience the Laker Effect. Grand Valley's living centers offer all the features you want with on-campus conveniences and advantages, which is why more and more students have decided to stay, and why many who left are coming back. Whether it is unique social experiences, readily available academic resources, and support, convenient dining options, or the relief of paying only one bill that has you thinking about living on campus, we truly hope you stay on campus.

The fact is, Lakers Live On Campus!

Incoming Freshman and First-Years

Live On Requirement

Incoming first-year students for Fall are required to live on campus. Once you have been admitted to GVSU, you must submit a housing application or an exemption request online. This may be done in your myHousing portal. Students who apply earlier are more likely to get a preferred housing choice. Students must submit the following to be eligible for fall placement:

• Housing application, contract, and $150 deposit

• Orientation reservation and enrollment fee

A first-year student is a student who is beginning their university studies. If you are a non-traditional incoming first-year student, please use the incoming transfer link below to find a better housing fit.

Returning, Transfer, and Graduate Students

A returning student is a student who has previously attended Grand Valley regardless if they have ever resided on-campus.

An incoming transfer student is a student who has previously attended another university.

Returning and transfer students participate in our room selection process. After you apply for housing, you will self-select your room during the room selection process.
