The KBEI Partners with Consumers Energy to Take On Workplace Harassment

Facilitated by Diana Lawson, Dean of the Seidman College of Business, and Michael DeWilde, Director of the Koeze Business Ethics Initiative at Seidman.

The KBEI is pleased to announce a partnership with Consumers Energy for a pilot workshop titled “How to Decrease Incidences of Harassment at Work.” The workshop will involve employees and leaders at Consumers and will tackle the question of what harassment (sexual and otherwise) is, according to the law, Consumers’ policies, and practices "on the ground."  The workshop will look at harassment from psychological, political and business perspectives and explore how those tend to influence behaviors.  The end goal will be, on one hand, to help participants better understand  harassing behaviors and the consequences they often have on individuals and an organization; on the other, the workshop will provide practical steps anyone in the company can take to address inappropriate behaviors effectively.  Using readings, film clips and short talks for background purposes, the workshop will mostly emphasize a training technique known as role-playing, along with several case studies to help give participants a sense of both agency and urgency as they seek to effectively decrease incidences of harassment.
