Biography

Pinar Üstel is a sociologist whose research explores lay expertise and knowledge-making in online platforms. Her dissertation focuses on how individuals seek support in online communities for discontinuing psychiatric medications. Her future research directions include the evolving social constructions of postpartum mental health and the management of contested health conditions.

In addition to her research, Pinar is an educational developer dedicated to enhancing teaching practices through innovative pedagogies. She has taught a variety of sociology and social work courses, ensuring her work remains grounded in practical implications for her students' lives and aspirations. Pinar is committed to creating inclusive learning environments that foster hope, courage, and an appreciation for social science research.
