Feeling expressive? Interested in the stage or spotlight? To celebrate World Theater Day on March 27, we are highlighting some student organizations at Grand Valley that are based around the performing arts. From improv to dance to a cappella to instrumental music, there are plenty of opportunities to perform your heart out on campus!
Subject to Change Improv Comedy
Say "yes, and" to attending a comedy show featuring Grand Valley’s improv comedy team, Subject to Change. This audition-based organization hosts public performances on and around campus, with yearly open auditions every September.
Dance Troupe
Put on your dancing shoes and join Grand Valley Dance Troupe! This student-run, non-competitive organization provides opportunities for all dancers and choreographers to showcase their passions in styles like jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, modern, hip-hop, musical theater, and more. Dance Troupe also has a mission to fundraise for charities and non-profit organizations each semester. Other fantastic on-campus dance organizations include Belly Dance Club, Move 2 the Beat Dance Crew, Momentum, Irish Dance Club, Elite Dance, Royal Dancers, Kpop Group Evolution, and Rhythm in Blue Dance Team.
STAGE
Want to step into the spotlight as an actor? Join STAGE, Grand Valley’s only 100% student-run theater organization. All experience levels are welcome to join STAGE or to attend their biannual showcases of completely student-written, directed, teched, produced, and starred sketches.
A Cappella GrooVe!
Sing your heart out with GrooVe! Since 2009, GV GrooVe! has been bringing harmonious music across not just Grand Valley but all over Michigan. By hosting yearly auditions, this co-ed student organization brings singers together to jam out to their favorite songs. Another must-see GVSU a cappella group is Euphoria.
Kappa Kappa Psi
If you are a member of an instrumental ensemble on campus, consider joining Kappa Kappa Psi, the co-ed music honors fraternity. Grand Valley’s ΚΚѰ is part of the Mu Kappa chapter and can be found participating in community service projects, supporting other music ensembles, and hosting bonding events in between weekly meetings. Another option for music-loving women at GVSU is Sigma Alpha Iota International Women’s Music Fraternity. If you consider yourself to be more of a theater kid, check out Alpha Psi Omega, GV's national honor theatre society.
