FUA Housing

Housing and Meals

FUA has two different styles of housing: shared apartments and homestays. Students have the option to have a single room, double room, triple room, multiple-person room, or a private apartment. Apartments are shared with other FUA students and students can select housing and roommate preferences on their housing application. Shared apartments include a partial meal plan of 5 units per week.

Students who choose to live in a homestay will live with a local host family. Single-room and double-room options are available. The included meal plan for homestays includes breakfast and dinner Monday through Thursday.

Housing assignments will be sent at least two weeks prior to the student's arrival in Florence. FUA housing options are centrally located and students can expect to navigate the city through public transportation or walking.

Students can also elect to secure housing independently from FUA, but must notify the admissions office.

Courses

FUA Course Options

FUA offers a wide variety of courses each semester. The majority of courses at FUA are taught in English. Most FUA courses will transfer back to GVSU as 3 credits. Access the FUA course information for a list of courses available and course descriptions.

How will the courses that I take at FUA transfer back to my GVSU Transcript?

If the course you wish to take at FUA appears on the "Existing Course Equivalencies" list, you do not need to secure course approval for that course. The course has already been approved by the GVSU academic department. If you course you wish to take is not pre-approved, then you should follow the course-approval process.

Travel Information

Students will fly into Florence or Rome, Italy. It is more common for students to fly into Rome and take a train to Florence. The Rome Leonardo da Vinci airport has a non-stop train service called the Leonardo Express from the Rome airport to the Rome train station. It takes about a half an hour to get from the airport to the train station. The train runs about every 15 minutes and costs 14 euros. Once students arrive at the Rome train station they will take a train to Florence. On average, the train from Rome to Florence takes 1 hour and 17 minutes. From the airport or train station in Florence, students can either take a bus or taxi to their arranged housing. Airport pickup can be arranged through FUA at an extra cost.
