Natural Resource Management

"In the era of the Anthropocene, gaining international perspectives on natural resource management strategies is an invaluable component of a holistic education. The Norwegian model for sustainability is realized on all levels, from national policies for sustainable development to household recycling and compost programs. Resources are not just protected for their utility, but truly enjoyed by all, with outdoor recreation being a key part of the national identity. My trip to Norway allowed me to see first-hand that better solutions exist for mitigating global climate change, and energized me to work towards implementation of better practices here in the states. As Aristotle said,

Natural Resource Management students can reap huge benefits through studying abroad by gaining hands on experience with different environments throughout the world. Abroad, students will learn to care for the land and water resources in a different setting and be better prepared to serve a multitude of people whose well-being depends on these services. Imagine studying deforestation of the Amazon in Brazil, studying the effects of climate change in China, or examining environmental pollution through a Costa Rican perspective. Step out into the world, rev up your resume, and earn academic credit by studying abroad!

Students interested in combining their study abroad experience with an internship, or those looking to focus solely on an internship, have many options. Customized internships are available in a few locations through GVSU internships, as well as other programs such as ELAP and World Endeavors

Keep in Mind

  • Once you have selected a program, be sure to meet with your adviser at least three months prior to departing for your program.
