The idea of shampooing one's hair derives from India, where long hair was treated with herbal waters. The word "shampoo" derives from the Sanskrit word champu, which means "to massage".

An Indian village named Khasi Hills, in the state of Meghalaya, holds the world record for highest average rainfall, with its record number being recorded in 1861.

In India, there is a spa just for elephants called Punnathoor Cotta Elephant Yard Rejuvenation Centre, in Kerala. Workers of the centre give elephants baths, massages, and food.

The game "Snakes and Ladders" was invented in India, and the original name was "Moksha Patamu". The original intention was to teach children about karma. However, today this game is popular world-wide.

Shakuntla Devi was given the title of "human calculator" after demonstrating being able to calculate 13 digit numbers picked randomly. The numbers were: 7,686,369,774,870 x 2,465,099,745,779 and she answered correctly in only 28 seconds!

India registers the largest number of vegetarians, with between 20-40% of the population choosing meatless diets, sometimes for personal choice and sometimes for religious choice.
