Psychology Abroad

Academic Advice
- As a Psychology student, you can study abroad at almost any time during your undergraduate career. You may fulfill your General Education prerequisites, you may take Psychology courses, or you may apply for research credits while abroad.
- The Psychology Department does not give credit for internships, either in the US or abroad.
- The Psychology department asks that students talk with their adviser at least 3 months prior to departing to work out psychology course equivalencies.
- It is recommended that students don’t fulfill the Psychology Capstone requirement abroad.
- The earliest you can go abroad is the summer of your first year.
- Students may fulfill General Education Foundation and Issues requirements abroad
- Students taking at least 3 credits abroad will fulfill their Global Perspectives requirement
- Students should be working with their faculty mentor to plan and make appropriate course selections for study abroad.
- PSY 300 can be accepted but will not count towards a SWS credit

Once you have selected a program, schedule a meeting with your academic advisor to discuss your plans.
Restrictions
- Courses will be reviewed on a case to case basis through the course equivalency process.
- As a matter of department policy, we do not transfer independent study or internship credit from other institutions (whether or not they are in a different country)
Keep in Mind
- Once you have selected a program, be sure to meet with your adviser at least three months prior to departing for your program.
- Be sure to explore both GVSU and external options by browsing the Program Suggestions below. Students are not limited to GVSU study abroad programs.
- There are several opportunities to intern and or volunteer while abroad.
- Students are also able to fulfill General Education requirements abroad, including their General Education Issues requirement.
