Academic Advice
FIRST YEAR AND SOPHOMORE STUDENTS
First Year Students
The earliest you can go abroad is the summer of your first year.
Students may fulfill General Education Foundations and/or Issues requirements abroad.
Sophomore Students
- Students may fulfill credits in their major as well as General Education Foundations and/or Issues requirements abroad.
- Be sure to begin planning at least six months in advance.
- Students do not need to speak a foreign language in order to study in a country where English is not the official language.
- An internship abroad will not only give students experience and insights into their specific field of interest, but will help them develop desirable cross-cultural skills and competency.
- Consider fulfilling your Issues General Education requirement abroad. Find out how!
Keep in mind
- Once you have selected a program, be sure to meet with your adviser at least three months prior to departing for your program.
- Be sure to explore both GVSU and Provider program options by browsing the Program Suggestions below. Students are not limited to GVSU study abroad programs.
- There are several opportunities to intern and or volunteer while abroad.
- Students are also able to fulfill General Education requirements abroad, including their General Education Issues requirement.
