Gender and Race: Does Implicit Bias Impact Your Healthcare?

This session will be a guided discussion addressing implicit gender and racial biases in the health care system and how these biases may impact the care received. This Teach-In will be formatted as an interactive dialogue starting with an overview lecture, followed by a timed discussion. The lecture will provide background on the topic of gender and race in healthcare, as well as personal stories from the presenters. During the timed discussion, participants will examine peer reviewed research and relevant news articles regarding implicit bias when it comes to patients of a different gender or race receiving health care in various settings ranging from emergency to routine annual episodes of care. During this time, the audience will be given 2 minutes per topic to discuss in roundtable format the potential impact of gender or racial bias on the healthcare provided.(Roundtable discussion)
