Striving to Meet the Needs of All Learners: Accommodations Enacted in the Classroom
PRESENTERS: Brittland DeKorver (Faculty) and Graduate Student ZOOM LINK
Ensuring that all learners have equitable access to educational materials and opportunities is a social justice issue. Equity cannot be achieved when the design or implementation of the curriculum excludes some learners. In an ableist educational system, some accommodations are required to meet the diverse needs of all learners. Students and faculty participants are invited to this interactive workshop to explore issues around implementation of accommodations in the classroom. We will host interactive conversations to describe and overcome barriers for instructors and students. For instructors, we hope that this will streamline the process of meeting students' DSR memos. For students, we hope that this will provide tools to engage in conversations with your professor about DSR memos. Solutions that follow principles for universal design for learning will be emphasized. (Workshop)
