Thomas Chavez joined the University Communications team in 2024, specializing in social media for the Office of the President and Grand Valley Public Safety. After graduating from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Thomas worked as a digital content writer for Woodward Sports Network. During that time, he covered the Detroit Pistons, Detroit Lions, the NFL and MSU Athletics.

He later served as a social media specialist for Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Brighton, Mich. before coming to GVSU. Thomas helps manage Grand Valley’s social media accounts with an emphasis on the Department of Public Safety and the Office of the President.

Thomas is the co-host of the football podcast Knowing Ball. In his free time, he is an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy novels as well as comic books.
