VAGTC Seminar on Hazardous Shipping
October 29, 2013
by Dottie Barnes
Shipping of hazardous materials is a highly regulated activity in today’s safety-conscious environment. Regulations are complex and numerous. The Van Andel Global Trade Center at Grand Valley State University is holding an event focusing on rules for shipping hazardous materials.
“Many companies are unaware that their shipments contain materials that could be considered either hazardous by nature or by physical condition, such as packaging in pressurized containers,” said Sonja Johnson, executive director of the Van Andel Global Trade Center. “Companies experience significant and costly delays in shipments containing trace amounts of hazardous residue to customers. Steep fines and penalties have also been imposed against companies and individuals who fail to comply with the rules.”
