Declaring the Studio Art Degree
Is this Your First Year at GVSU?
If you are starting at GVSU, you must attend freshman or transfer orientation before declaring your degrees.

Studio Art - B.F.A.
- Log into myBanner from the GVSU homepage
- Once logged in select “Student”, “Student Records”, and then, “Change Major”
- Click on the “Change Major 1/Program” box
- Click on the down arrow in the box next to “New Major 1/Program,” from here scroll down and choose “Studio Art-BFA ”
- You will need to declare an emphasis to complete this process. You must choose between Ceramics, Graphic Design, Illustration, Jewelry and Metalsmithing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Visual Studies. The Studio Art BFA Major considers this your preliminary Emphasis Selection.
- Click “Submit” and then “Change to New Program”
- Your request will be sent to Registration for processing and back to the VMA Department for approval. Approval may take up to 2 business days.
- After completing all specific requirements, a faculty panel will assess your work during the Second Year Advisory review. At this time, you will need to confirm your BFA emphasis designation.

Studio Art - B.A./B.S.
1. Log into myBanner from the GVSU homepage
2. Once logged in select “Student”, “Student Records”, and then, “Change Major”
3. Click on the “Change Major 1/Program” box
4. Click on the down arrow in the box next to “New Major 1/Program,” from here scroll down and choose “Studio Art ”
5. Click “Submit” and then “Change to New Program”
6. Your request will be sent to Registration for processing and back to the VMA Department for approval. Approval may take up to 2 business days.

Studio Art - Minor
1. Log into Banner Self-Service, and use your GVSU Central Login information.
2. Click on "Student."
3. Click on "Student Records."
4. Click on "Change Major." (Same link to change minor.)
5. Click on the item you wish to update: Minor.
6. Select Art Minor from the drop down list.
7. Click on Submit.
8. Click on Change to New Program.
9. Your request will be sent to Registration for processing and back to the VMA Department for approval. Approval may take up to 2 business days.
