Connecting around metalwork
March 17, 2017
Connections with peer institutions allow faculty and students to get acquainted to each other and foster relationships that can be cultivated in the future. And this year's Metals 2017 exhibition, sponsored by the Michigan Silversmith's Guild Exhibition, is doing just that. For this event, the faculty was invited to show their work alongside their students. "It allows students and instructors to see what is happening in other institutions. This can spark curiosity and excitement and an opportunity to make connections and exchanges", as stated on their website.
This year's exhibit was curated by Dr. Gretchen Otto, Professor of Art and Brianna Wickoff. The exhibition displays over 60 pieces from 11 regional schools from Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. From GVSU, Beverly Seley and Renee Zettle-Sterling, faculty members in the Jewelry and Metal Arts area, along with other four students — Tabatha Gulino, Audrey King, Jillian Thompson and Betsy Vollmar - are joining the other 10 schools in celebrating the excellent creative student production in the area.
The exhibition is on display from March 8 to April 11 at the University Gallery, Eastern Michigan University Student Center. The venue's location is 900 Oakwood St, Ypsilanti, MI. Gallery hours are Monday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
