Department of Visual and Media Arts a proud sponsor of the 2018 Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival
March 30, 2018
Grand Valley State University, Aquinas College, Calvin College, Cornerstone University, Davenport University, Hope College, and Tertulia are pleased to announce the 8th Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival, which will take place April 6 – 8, 2018 at Wealthy Theatre.
The Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival (GRLAFF), which has been bringing films that represent diverse perspectives, origins, and themes to the Wealthy Theatre since 2010, will be returning for its eighth season this spring. Over the three-day period, the festival will feature nine recent films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, and Venezuela. A number of films will also be followed by question-and-answer sessions with directors and panel discussions with special guests. (Click here to view the festival schedule.)
Area families are invited to mark their calendars for Saturday, April 7, when for the first time the festival will offer a “GRLAFF for Kids” event in the Wealthy Theatre’s micro-cinema, with live puppet shows and a screening of Anina, an animated film from Uruguay.
The entire festival is free to the public and all films will be presented with English subtitles.
The 2018 festival is sponsored by a coalition of area universities (Grand Valley State University, Aquinas College, Calvin College, Cornerstone University, Davenport University, and Hope College), Tertulia, the Consulate of Colombia in Chicago, Kendall College of Art and Design, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Pragda Spanish Film Club, and Vias Marketing.
