Jewelry and Metals Event connects students and alumni at Calder for making work and career advice
March 23, 2018
On March 23-25, The Jewelry and Metals area hosted Make It: MADE, the first Metals Invitational Work Weekend.
Over the course of three days, current students and alumni got together under the roof that helped shaped their careers (the metal shop in the Calder Arts Center), and spent hours making new work and debating about careers in the field and how to be a practicing jewelry maker in today's economy.
Four alums took time out of their busy schedules and sat on a discussion panel that was both eye-opening and inspirational for the current majors. Participating in the discussion were Peter Antor, Artist in Residence at Lill Street Gallery in Chicago; Alaina Clarke, Program Director for the Society of North American Goldsmiths; Collyn DeBano, Owner of Tree Trunk Arts; and Abbey Hunter, owner and operator of the Hot Spot in Grand Rapids. MI.
