Professor Anal Shah's new film selected for the Viennale in Vienna, Austria

Anal Shah’s, Assistant Professor of Film & Video Production, will be screening his latest short film Kalaripayattu in this year's edition of the Viennale, Vienna International FIlm Festival.

The Viennale is Austria’s most important international film event, as well as one of the oldest and best-known festivals in the German-speaking world. Every October, the event takes place in Vienna’s historic center, providing the festival with an international orientation and a distinctive urban flair. Over 94,000 people attend the festival every year.

Shah's new production is woven from observational footage shot at various gyms showing the oldest martial arts of the world, Kalaripayattu. Intriguingly, the film offers no explanation via narration, thus encouraging the viewer into an unfiltered sensory experience. The task for the viewer is to find the hidden and embedded snippets of personal history in the work. “I see my work as a visual diary of my observations.” Anal will be present at the screening on November 1st.
