Students in ART392 collaborate in curating a solo exhibition for nationally prominent local artist

During this past First Friday by Avenue for the Arts Visual Studies professor Anna Campbell’s Art 392: Curatorial Studio class held All Things Change: Kim Cridler, a show of nationally prominent Rockford artist Kim Cridler’s work. The work was exhibited at Light Gallery + Studio in downtown Grand Rapids from Nov. 29th - Dec. 3rd. The class worked on this exciting exhibition as part of the culmination of the semester’s study. Throughout the class the students took on curatorial as well as arts administrative and design labor, working individually as well as together to bring the exhibit to fruition. The curriculum covered critical and presentational challenges within the studio context. The opening of the show attracted many visitors and included a Q&A with Kim Cridler, whose animated discussion of her work incited laughs from the audience.

The exhibit, which focused in particular on Cridler’s process, generated engaged dialog from members of the community and students alike. The class included Ashley Beeker, Joey Butler, Kenzie Cargill, Alex Chapman, Natalie Gentry, Chase Hasper, Morgan Hayden, Katelyn Lankinga, TJ Mathieu, K Mayer, Kristina Petrash, Kendra Smith, Annie Teall, and Ashley VanDyke.

Curatorial Studio, which requires no prerequisites, covers the general education issues requirement.
