History in the making: Hubert Massey's painting at Cobo Center
May 22, 2018
As with the work of Italy’s Michelangelo and Mexico’s Diego, Massey’s painting is a fresco, an old technique executed upon fresh, wet lime plaster. As he explains, water is used as the vehicle for dry powder pigment to merge with the plaster. When the plaster sets, the painting becomes an integral part of the wall.
Massey is known for His own distinctive frescos, tile murals, and paintings that can be seen throughout Detroit, Flint, and Grand Rapids. He is a Kresge Fine Arts Fellow and received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Grand Valley State University.
