Professor Anna Campbell wins Barbara Jordan Award

Anna Campbell, Associate Professor of Sculpture, Visual Studies, and Foundations, is the winner of this year’s Barbara Jordan Awards, sponsored by the Department of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies at GVSU.

Named to celebrate Texas congresswoman Barbara Jordan, this award honors a faculty or staff person on GVSU’s campus who has been a long-time advocate of women, women's issues, and the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program, and who has bridged the gap between traditional academic fields and women's and gender studies. The winners are selected based on the criteria of having made lasting and profound contributions in the areas of women’s learning, scholarship, and/or leadership, and of having created a climate in which long-lasting changes can develop and grow. Past winners include CLAS Associate Dean for Faculty, Resources and Scheduling Gretchen Galbraith, and Provost Maria Cimitile.

Anna Campbell received her B.A. in studio art from the College of Wooster and her M.F.A. in art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She teaches Three-Dimensional Design and Making and Meaning in the Foundations Program, as well as courses in the Visual Studies emphasis area, including Curatorial Studio and Space Studio. Campbell also developed Mapping New York City, a class that includes study in New York. Her research focuses on queered representations of heroic masculinity through video, sculpture, and installation art.
